Wedding guest inspiration

The wedding season is here and I have been seeing lots of retailers advertising their wedding guest picks, so thought I would share some of my favourites with you.

As I have a fairly broad readership and I am a bit of an inbetweeny  myself I have included a broad range of size options but the sizes available are below the pictures to avoid frustrations.

Phase Eight

Phase Eight carry up to a size 20 and their jersey dresses I especially get on well with as my bust is a bit bigger than a 20 in materials with no give.
They have the most stunning selection of dresses!

They actually have a Wedding boutique section on the site HERE

This is by far my favourite, it is just do beautiful in the details, the mandarin collar and the buttons, and the beautiful muted colours are perfect for a spring wedding.

Size 8-20

Next on my list is this stunning Navy and floral dressI love the dark background and the pretty colours of the flowers.
Size 8-20

My next choice is this sexy little number which would be perfect for an evening guest.

Size 8-20

My Last dress selection from Phase Eight is a Maxi, I love their jersey maxi most fit fairly well on someone up to a size 22
Peony Print Maxi Dress £120
Size 8-20

Accessories are fabulous from Phase 8

Another place I love to shop for a wedding outfit is Debenhams, they have a very good size range.
Debenhams also have an amazing range of accessories and shoes, its perfect for a one stop shop without all the faffing!

The first dress that has caught my eye is this beautiful broderie prom dress.
Size 8-24

Next is this pretty spot print dress with a pleated skirt, so simple and pretty!

Size 10-24

I love the next dress, it is bang on the Monochrome trend and just a little different, could be easily brightened up with match accessories in a strong colour.
Size 12-24

Simply Be

Simply be are a godsend for me and many plus size women, the size ranges are fantastic.

My first choice is this gorgeous floral number which is so pretty for a springtime wedding.
Size 12-32

Next is something for an evening guest, it is a dark base but the sparkle makes it suitable for the evening.
Size 14-32

This next dress is from Joanna Hope and is available in standard and petite length which is perfect for short arses like me!
Size 12-32

I love the vibrant colour of the this last dress.
Rise Grace Bead Neck Dress £60
Size 14-32

DO you have any weddings this sumer?

This weeks Fatshion Faceoff was chosen by the wonderful Olivia of www.waituntilthesunset.com, and she chose the LBD, now most girls have one in there wardrobe but I don't really buy black dresses anymore, but I did have a LBD that I picked up in a charity shop a while back for £4,  so it got a little outing on this weeks Fatshion Faceoff.

Fatshion Faceoff

Fatshion Faceoff is a fabulous weekly blogging extravaganza, where myself and 5 other fantabulous bloggers take an item of clothing that we all have in our wardrobes and style them in our way.

I have been having so much fun doing these posts, but I found this week particularly hard!

SO what is this week....

HiLo Hem Skirt/dress

I have a skirt it is a very basic black skirt from Primark, it only coast me about £8 and it is great for the summer with some sandals and and a fab oversize T-shirt tucked in, makes me feel about 15 again.

The hard part of the challenge was that it really isn't summer at all at the moment, and to top it off it was chucking it down and practically dark all day so sandals were not going to happen!

This is what I came up with, it needs work :)

The weather was so bad, it was really hard to get a good photo that showed the length of the skirt, it is about knee length at the front and mid calf at the back.

The back and please excuse my crazy frizzy hair, it is the rain!

This top was from Next last season, and OMG I love the print!

And a fabulous Funk and Finery Wrap Bracelet.

Skirt - Primark £8
Boots - Asos Past Season
Leggings - Old John Rocha @ Debenhams
Bracelet - Funk and Finery
Go take a look at the 5 other fabulous ladies, they all have the most amazing styles!

See you again soon!

Coat Review - Ann Harvey Cape

When Ann Harvey asked me which coats I wanted to review, I knew I wanted to try the beautiful double breasted cape that had been featured in Grazia.

The coats arrived and after finding the Red Funnel Neck coat such a good fit, I was so excited to get the cape on, but disaster struck, I am tiny only 5'1" and although I might be fat, I have narrow shoulders and a short waist, the cape swamped me, it was down to my knees and I couldn't even get my arms out of the sleeves, they even sent me another one in there smallest size but I still had the same problems.

Thinking I would have to send it back, I had a brainstorm (yes it hurt), I didn't want to miss out this coat in the review as even though it was wrong on me, it is a stunning coat, the material is beautiful, the quality excellent, and just because I am short doesn't mean all my readers are, so I spoke to Ann Harvey and the said I could pass the coat to my friend for her to wear and review for me.

I had the perfect friend in mind, she is tall plus, and gorgeous, and I knew she could rock the hell out of a cape, this fabulous friend is Helen!

To give you a little background on Helen she is crazy busy all the time, she is mum to Rowan who is 5 Wife to Daniel and she works as a Special needs Teaching assistant, she also used to be a girls brigade leader and beavers I believe and still is as far as I know, so as you can imagine her week is incredibly hectic.

We had planned to set out the format of the review in the same way as the other two coats but between Helens crazy life, and loosing all her pics on her USB stick and my crazy life of step son breaking his arm and recovery we haven't been able to get together for such a long time, so I am going to give you it all in one go here and now.

I loved the idea of sweeping about town looking all sophisticated in my beautiful cape but alas it was not to be!

The quality of the Cape was the same as the Red coat, the seams strong and a really well put together item, the buttons are nice and fit into the button holes easily without being stiff.

Helen sent me some photos of herself in the coat, I wish I had remembered to take a photo of me in the cape for comparison, but never mind, helen looks super pretty in it instead.

My only worry with this coat is that it is such a light colour and I am hopeless with light colours.

We have also just found out the wonderful news the Helen and Daniel are expecting there second baby, so a huge congratulations to them both.  xxx

Helen sent me over a little note to go with the review

The coat is comfy, warm and I think it's stylish, although for me the

colour is a little impractical. At the moment it is great as it is one

of the few coats I can wear with my expanding waste line!

So all in all a great review again for Ann Harvey, I would recommend a look in the stores if you have one or online, they also have concessions in both Debenhams and some Evans stores, there are a few items on my lists to buy at the moment.

Coats!!!!

Coat shopping is my most dreaded time of year, I love coats, I have about 10 in various sizes and states, BUT... Every year I am reduced to tears, last year was in BHS the year before was in Debenhams, the reason for this is the utter frustration of the differences in sizing from shop to shop and even in the same shop.

I have boobs, so often even when I fall in love with a coat I cant do the bloody thing up, my husbands dreads my coat shopping trips and I honestly cant blame him,.

Below are a few I have fallen for online some I will never be able to wear, but a girl has to have a dream right?

The Dorothy Perkins red duffle coat is such a pretty colour and I love the patent buckles, this should go around my boobs!

Next is the Camel piped duffle coat from Evans/ Style 369 it is very lovely but camel can make me look a bit washed out so would have to try it.

The Simply Be Double breasted duffle coat is divine, but due to my boobs I doubt I could wear it, this makes me a sad bunny :(

I love the ASOS coat, it just looks so cozy and warm, but I cant decide if it is worth the £95 price tag!

Anna Scholz, omg I love this cape, never liked them until I saw this on the gorgeous Boombands Em in her Anna Scholz review, and she looked stunning in it!

What shapes do you find best and where do you shop for the perfect coat.

Please feel free to leave a comment, I do love getting them :)

LBD vs LCD

Little Black Dress vs Little Coloured Dress

This is something I have been seeing in the shops, Dorothy Perkins are making a big thing of the little coloured dress right now, with some fabulous offerings.
But as a plus sized woman, who every year has serious panic attacks about social events due to a few horrible experiences in the past, I find christmas and all the gatherings with friends and family incredibly hard, and not knowing what to wear even harder.
As you can imagine finding that perfect outfit to make me a little more confident and a little better prepared to handle the situation becomes a high priority for me right around now, as I know how difficult I can be.
So today I took a trip to town for some window shopping and to try on some styles I like, to see if I will be sticking to the tried and tested LBD of being a bit braver in my choices and going for a LCD.
I didn't get much chance to try on many dresses today, this is because as usual the shops had hardly any sizes available for me.

But here are a few I did try.

Evans - Red Ponteroma Tunic Top £29.50

This Tunic I have to say is AMAZING! I love how thick the material is, it hangs beautifully and feels lovely. I can see me getting so much wear from this, It is long enough to wear with tights as a dress or with leggings as I did today, and with jeggings and jeans.

Betty Jackson. Black at Debenhams - Orange Bold Stripe Jersey Dress £60.00

I loved the bold colour of this dress but without super duper sucky in knickers I felt a little bit big round the middle.

Betty Jackson. Black at Debenhams - Navy Blue Full Skirted Shift Dress £65.00
This dress was Gorgeous very heavy feel, fully lined and gorgeous colour and belt, dark enough to count as a LBD but with a splash of colour, I tried it in a 20 and have on a terrible bra that offers little support and it was huge on my back so think I could go down to an 18 with some decent foundation underwear!

Betty Jackson. Black at Debenhams - Orange Floral Shirt Dress £65.00
I didnt have a chance to try this dress on, but loved the colour so vibrant and fun!

Betty Jackson. Black at Debenhams - Dark Turquoise Three Quarter Sleeve Shift Dress £65.00
I didn't see this in the shop or I would have tried it on, I think it is similar to the Navy dress and looks stunning.

Betty Jackson. Black at Debenhams - Natural Colour block Dress £65.00
Has a lovely back too!

Dorothy Perkins - Orange Colour Block dress £42.00
I went to try this on in the shop today, but they only had one in the whole store and it was a 14, but the back of this dress is so pretty!

Anna Scholz for Simply Be - Black Velour Dress £70.00
Simply be have some gorgeous offerings at the moment, but I do love the sexy shape of this dress.

Simply Be - Simply Voluptuous Dress £62.00
My boobs are the bane of my life, fitting them in a dress often leaves me in a size or two bigger than i need for the rest of my body, very tempted to try one of these out to see if they can work for me.

Simply Be - Bespoke Little Black Dress - £70.00
I love this dress, it is sexy and fits the AW11 fetish trend very well with the corseted section at the waist, Simply Beautiful!

Simply Be - Simply Voluptuous Dress £62.00
Same as the black above but braver in colour for me, and as it is available in E-G cup to, could be perfect!

Simply Be - Angels and Ribbons Lace Tunic Dress £48.00
I love this colour! are you getting that from my dress selections so far?

Sorry this has been a photo heavy post but though it would be a good exercise for me to try new things so far I am in love with the Betty Jackson Navy and turquoise dresses and want to order a couple of items from simply be when I can afford to!

So what is it going to be for you this party season the trusty LBD or the brave LCD let me know what you think in the comments.

OOTD - Introduction to me!

Kind of a bit crumpled and creased as I helped my mum get set off to her new house today after having her stay with us for the last 6 odd weeks, but thought it was about time I bit the bullet and took a photo of myself.

Now I have to point out that we have been in the house a while but it needs so much work done that it is a total mess, as you can see by the paint work, so I will try to take more photos outside on nice days. x

You can almost make out my pooch Poppy looking at me like im mad, we also have toby so ill add a couple of pictures on now as they will no doubt invade most of my pictures!

Dress was brought from Evans sale last week for £10 and leggings are from Debenhams.

The first picture is poppy our 5 yr old staff x G. Shepherd and the next is out 2 yr old staff x Collie they can usually be found sitting all over me so will no doubt make a few appearances.

Now for a little bit of background and an idea of what you might find on my blog.

I have been plus size for about the last 10 years and have found out that I am unable to concieve children naturally but due to my weight I can not have IVF until I reach there healthy weight, so you may find the odd rant about how much I hate diets and salads, sorry!

When I was at school I was between a size 8 and a 10 when I left for college but due to a few mean comments and my own self esteem I honestly saw myself as about a size 16 I often bought clothing too big for me because i believed it was the size I needed.

Now that I am fat I never really see myself as fat, I am just me, my husband loves me and is happy when I am happy so my weight loss is for my health and fertility not because I hate myself. ( although I do get those days!)

I am going to try to post some outfits and my wish lists but I will also include some of my photography as it is my passion and makes me happy.

Mhairi. xxxx

Please Enjoy.
